Adding a mobile GPS navigation device is a great way to make any car more simple and fun to drive. GPS devices allow drivers to plot efficient routes, identify points of interest and, in some cases, monitor traffic and play music. For drivers of the sporty Mazda 3, Mazda offers built-in GPS navigation as a factory option. When not so equipped, adding a standard GPS device to any model of the Mazda 3 is especially simple due to the design of the car's interior.
Read the owner's manual for the GPS device completely. The manual will include instructions for using the device as well as important information about how to use the suction cup car mount. Carefully read all safety recommendations.
Locate the suction cup car mount. Remove the clear plastic shield from the base of the suction cup. Make sure that the base of the suction cup remains clean as debris or water can cause it to form a weak seal and come loose during use.
Insert the GPS device into the mount's cradle. Place the entire assembly on the vehicle's dash, just above the left vent on the center console and to the left of the radio LCD display. This is the space used for the Mazda 3's in-dash GPS option, so it is the perfect place to add a mobile version.
Adjust the GPS device by pivoting the cradle and moving the location of the base until it is clearly visible from your normal, seated driving position. Make sure that you can still read the radio controls, which will display to the right of the GPS mount. When you have found a good position, engage the clamp to cause the suction cup to sick to the dash. Make a note of this location so you can quickly re-mount the GPS in the future.
Attach the power cable to the back or side of the device if you plan to charge it while driving. Lay the cable along the dash so that it falls between the Start Engine button and the center console, out of the way of the steering wheel. Connect the other end of the cable to the center console's auxiliary power outlet.
