How to Activate Your GM Factory Remote Starter by Cell Phone

Did you ever think that you would be able to start your vehicle by pressing a button on your cell phone? Well, as of December 2010, GM, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick vehicles equipped with the OnStar system and a factory remote starter allow their owners to do just that. By using the OnStar MyLink application on your smartphone, you can lock and unlock your vehicle's doors, activate the alarm and lights, check the current mileage, fuel level, remaining oil life, tire pressure and start the vehicle remotely. It only takes a few minutes to set up the OnStar application.

Register your smartphone with OnStar by visiting the “MyOnStar” website.

Click on the “Renew/Manage Account” tab on the top-right side of the page. Type in your OnStar account number and the zip code of your vehicle's registration address.

Create and enter the user name for your log-in information and set a password, then enter your email address into the designated box.

Download the “OnStar MyLink” application on your smartphone’s application store. Open the application and then enter your user name and password

Open the application and then click on “Request Registration Code” once the application has downloaded. You will be sent an email with your registration code. Check your email to retrieve the registration code.

Type in your registration code in to the application’s designated box and click “Register My Device.”

Locate the “Activate Remote Start” option and then select that option to start your vehicle.
