How to Fix a Dual Car CD Player

Dual is a car audio-equipment manufacturer that primarily focuses on stereo receivers. With a Dual car CD player, you can listen to inserted compact discs as well as connected USB flash drives and even MP3 players. However, as with other stereo receivers, you are occasionally going to run into playback problems. This will make it necessary to troubleshoot the stereo system and your vehicle in order to pinpoint the exact problem.

Things You'll Need

  • Car owner's manual
  • Replacement fuse
  • Disconnect the faceplate of the Dual CD player. Some CD players have fold-out faceplates that provide access to the CD player. If the player is not reading discs or connected MP3 players, or the LCD display just isn't functioning, you need to reset the player. Removing the faceplate does just this. Hold down the small button release on the side of the player, then pull the plate to the left to remove it. Leave it off for a few minutes, then connect it to the stereo.

  • Spray a few shots of compressed air into the CD slot on the Dual player. If inserted CDs are skipping, the player is probably dirty. The compressed air removes dust and other debris buildup around the player lens.

  • Replace the stereo system fuse if it is no longer powering on. This means you have blown a fuse in the car's fusebox. Check your owner's manual for the exact fuse and fusebox location. Slide out the damaged fuse and insert the replacement. Power on the vehicle to regain functionality of the player.

  • Eject the CD from the player and disconnect the front faceplate if you are receiving an "Error" message. Place the plate back onto the player and insert the CD once the reset has finished.
