How to Adjust a MTX Amp

While MTX manufacturers a large number of different amplifier models, all of the amplifiers feature similar methods for adjusting the sound settings. Although some MTX amplifiers feature remote adjustable gain controls or demonstration modes, all MTX amplifiers are equipped with built-in gain adjustment knobs. The gain adjustment knob allows the user to properly match the output from the vehicle's source unit with the amplifier's input sensitivity. Fortunately, the adjustment process requires no additional tools or equipment.

  • Turn the gain to its lowest setting using the adjustment knob located on the amplifier.

  • Increase the volume on the vehicle's source unit to approximately three-fourths of its maximum output.

  • Decrease the source unit's bass and treble settings to zero.

  • Increase the gain setting on the amplifier slowly until there is distortion.

  • Decrease the gain setting to the point right before distortion is reached. The amplifier is now adjusted to offer maximum performance without distorting and possibly causing harm to itself.
