How to Remove a Monsoon Car Stereo from a Volkswagen Jetta

The stock stereo in some model years of Volkswagen Jetta was made by Monsoon, an aftermarket stereo brand. These stereos were considered to be an upgraded model from the factory stereo, and cost extra to have installed in the vehicle. Although this is a nice stereo, some people would like to upgrade the stereo with an aftermarket model that has more features, such as Bluetooth, in-dash CD changers or satellite radio. To do that, you first have to remove the factory Monsoon stereo.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 sets VW stereo removal tools
  • Locate the small slots in the top of the stereo. Put the long end of the Volkswagen stereo removal tool into the slots on the top of the stereo. Insert it so that the flat part of the tool points toward the doors.

  • Insert the two other removal tools into the bottom two slots on the stereo in the same way.

  • Pull out on the tools to free the stereo from the dashboard. Slide the stereo out the rest of the way with your hands. Unplug the antenna and harness from the back.
