How to Remove a Factory Radio From a Scion XA

The Scion XA is a small hatchback that was sold between 2004 and 2006. The factory radio setup for all XA models is the same, as is the radio removal process. Even if you are an amateur when it comes to car audio, it shouldn't take you longer than 15 minutes to remove the Scion XA's factory radio. For replacement purposes, the radio is a double-sized unit (referred to as Double-DIN).

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10-mm socket
  • Open the Scion's hood and turn the nut around the negative battery cable connection with a wrench. Grasp the cable and pull it up to unhook it from the car's battery.

  • Grip each climate control knob firmly. Pull them forward to slide them off. Remove the two Philllips screws behind the outer knobs.

  • Pull the left vertical panel away from the radio console, followed by the right vertical panel. This exposes two Phillips screws, which secure the main radio console panel.

  • Remove the two Phillips screws. Grasp the whole radio console panel and pull it off.

  • Remove the four radio bolts with a 10-mm socket wrench. Pull the radio out and unplug the two connections from the back.
