Rear Speaker Installation Instructions for a GL1800

The Honda Goldwing is a touring motorcycle that has been in production since 1975. In 2001, Honda released the Goldwing GL1800, a large, long distance touring bike that included a comfort package, airbags and audio package. Rear speakers started as an option, but were made standard in 2006. The rear speakers fit into a small pod at the back of the body, and speakers not designed for the GL1800 will not fit properly.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Speaker pod
  • Set the bike on a level surface, place it in park and lower the kickstand.

  • Open the speaker pod. Remove the three screws on the bottom of the speaker pod with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Open the trunk lid, move the liner aside and remove the two screws underneath using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the existing speaker pod.

  • Feed the speaker electrical connection through the hole in the back of the new speaker pod. Plug the electrical connection into the wiring harness underneath. Push them together until they snap into place.

  • Replace the speaker pod, but do not set the speaker fully inside the pod. Install the two screws under the trunk lid with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Install the three screws at the bottom of the speaker pod.

  • Set the speaker into the bottom of the pod. Push the lid closed firmly so that it pops into place.
