How to Disconnect a PassLock System on a Grand Am

The PassLock system on your Grand Am is the same thing known as a lock system or keyless remote system on most other cars. This technology allows you to control your door locks, your panic alarm and your trunk release from a distance. If your remote is not working properly, or needs to be replaced, you can temporarily disconnect it in just minutes from inside your car.

  • Locate the edges of the dashboard panel over the radio or stereo system, and to the right of your steering column.

  • Unscrew this panel from the edges of the dashboard, and use a flat blade to pry the edges of the panel loose.

  • Wedge the blade into one spot in the panel to pop it off, then set the panel aside.

  • Locate the PassLock system module underneath the dashboard, and locate the wire connected to the car's positive battery terminal.

  • Disconnect this wire at the PassLock module to completely disable the system. Replace the dashboard panel once you are done.
