While economical 4-cylinder engines are generally associated with foreign vehicle manufacturers, Ford has a history of producing 4-cylinder engines that are quite powerful. The Mustang and Ranger, two of Ford's most popular vehicles, have featured the 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine. Regardless of whether the 4-cylinder is installed in a Ranger or Mustang, modifying the electronic control unit and improving the flow of air into the engine and the flow of exhaust gases out will noticeably increase the amount of horsepower produced by the engine.
Modify the software that controls the 4-cylinder engine by attaching an aftermarket performance chip.
