1996 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Keyless Entry Instructions

The 1996 Silverado is among the many Chevrolet vehicles from that year that features keyless entry capabilities. These systems are installed in the form of electronic transmitters and work with wireless remotes that can be carried in your pocket. You can program the remote or remotes for your Silverado yourself with no professional experience and without any fear of shock. You can synchronize as many as four remotes to your car, to share with your whole family.

Things You'll Need

  • Jumper wires
  • Locate the data port terminal under your driver's side dashboard and connect the jumper wire to the number four and number eight terminals. These terminals will be located on the top of the data port and fourth and eighth from the left side, respectively. The jumper wires can be found at most automotive or electronic stores, and are similar to your large jumper cables that connect to your engine. These wires are about six or eight inches long and feature a clamp on each end.

  • Wait for the door locks to cycle after connecting the jumper wires and press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on your remote.

  • Hold the buttons for 15 seconds until the locks cycle and do the same with any additional remotes, programming within 30 seconds each time.

  • Remove the jumper wires to end the programming mode.
