How to Put on Jeep Bikini Tops

The Jeep was developed by Willys Overland in World War II as a small, reliable four-wheel-drive vehicle to transport troops. After the war was over, demand for the little vehicle was so high that Willys Overland decided to produce civilian versions and offer them for sale. Although Jeep has changed ownership many times since, the company still produces vehicles as of 2010. If your Jeep is the open variety, in the summer time you may want to install a bikini top, which is available from many after-market manufacturers. This type of top only covers the top of the roof and not the sides and back of the vehicle (hence the the bikini name), allowing you to enjoy wind-in-your-hair motoring.

  • Drape the bikini top over the top of the Jeep. Push the front edge of the top, which has a plastic reinforcing strip sewn across it, into the slot on the front edge of the top of the windshield. Make sure the overhang of the top is equal on each side of the windshield. Slide the front edge of the top in the windshield slot if needed to obtain equal overhang on each side.

  • Drape the rear of the top over the roll bar (the steel tube that is bolted to the floor and extends up to the roof-line) behind the front seats of the Jeep. Take the end of the long strap at the center of the bikini top and wrap it around the center of the roll bar.

  • Take the end of the strap to the front of the vehicle and thread it through the hook at the top center of the windshield. Bring the end of the strap back through the buckle. Pull on the strap to tighten it.

  • Wrap the straps at the rear of the bikini top around the roll bar. Run the straps back to the buckle sewn in the top and tighten them.

  • Take the Velcro straps at the front corners of the bikini top and attach them to each other. Push the straps above the sport bar so that they will be out of the way. Wrap the inside and outside flaps above the door openings and fasten to the roll bar with the Velcro straps that are sewn into the top.
