How to Get to the Bose Amp in 2006 Mazda 3

Some models of the popular Mazda 3 are equipped with the upgraded Bose stereo system. The Bose amp is mounted on the floorboard, underneath the driver's seat. Accessing the Bose amp isn't too hard, but certain precautions should be taken. The instructions for accessing the Bose amp are the same whether your Mazda 3 is a sedan or a hatchback.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Socket wrench (12mm)
  • Breaker bar or extension
  • Liquid Wrench (optional)
  • Remove the plastic battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait five to 10 minutes before proceeding. Some Mazda 3 models are equipped with side-airbags; you must wait for the system to disable.

  • Use the adjustment bar to push the seat back to its furthest position. Pull off the two plastic seat track covers on the front, and pull the seat forward to remove the plastic track covers in the rear.

  • Push the seat back to its furthest position again, and reach your hands underneath to disconnect the electrical connections. One of the connections is for the airbag; the other is for the seat belt system.

  • Remove the two bolts on the front track, then remove the two bolts on the rear track. The bolts are very tight; use a breaker bar or socket extension to help get leverage.

  • Remove the seat or push it out of the way to access the Bose amp. If removing the seat from the car, be careful not the scratch the door or side sill with the metal seat tracks.
