How to Install a Hideaway Strobe

Hide-A-Way LED strobe lights are installed into a composite automotive headlight or taillight assembly to provide auxiliary warning and safety lighting. They aren't designed as a primary source of warning and safety illumination the way a roof-mounted light-bar is. The filament of the existing bulb in the light assembly is the focal point of the reflector, so positioning the hideaway is important. Installing a Hide-A-Way strobe involves mounting and wiring it.

Things You'll Need

  • Hole saw
  • Drill and bits
  • Screwdriver
  • Momentary 12V switch
  • Electrical insulation tape
  • Remove the reflector assembly from the vehicle using the manufacturer's instructions. Then select the location for the Hide-A-Way. Keep 1 inch of space between the Hide-A-Way and the lens. Pick a spot below the horizontal center line of the reflector and below any OEM light. Get the Hide-A-Way as close to the focal point (existing bulb) as possible. Cut a 3/4-inch hole with a hole saw.

  • Insert the Hide-A-Way assembly into the hole and mark the mounting holes. Remove the assembly and drill the holes. Reinstall the assembly and fasten the included screws. Then repeat for the other side of the vehicle. Remount the headlight assemblies and route the cable from the Hide-A-Way to the driver module.

  • Mount the driver module in the engine compartment by attaching it with screws and then wire the assemblage. Two front Hide-A-Ways each connect to positions 1 and 2 on the driver module. Two rear Hide-A-Ways connect to positions 3 and 4. The "Channel B" position is for the included power wiring harness. Black goes to "Ground," red to the positive side of the battery, white/violet to the switch and the other side of the switch also goes to the positive side of the battery. Tape the unused grey wire -- it is used to sync with other power supplies.
