The Lancer Evolution, or Evo for short, is a high-performance vehicle produced by Mitsubishi Motors. Originally designed for the World Rally Championship, the Evo is a powerful and agile vehicle right off the showroom floor. With over 290 horsepower, the Evo X has adequate power for quick launches and high-top speeds. However, if you prefer your cars with ferocious power, there are ways to increase the Evo X to 500 horsepower and beyond.
Install an aftermarket turbo. There are many choices of turbo kits for the Evo X that will increase the horsepower to 500 and well beyond. Generally you pay for horsepower, so the more you're willing to spend on a turbo kit, the higher the horsepower you can gain.
Use a combination of modifications to tune your Evo X. If your budget only allows for a turbo kit that gets you close to 500 horsepower but not quite to the level of power you're looking for, consider installing additional performance parts. Adding an upgraded intercooler, exhaust system and cold-air intake are all basic ways to increase horsepower. More extensive modifications include performance cams, cylinder heads, valve springs, pistons and rods.
Install an upgraded engine. Although this is by far the most expensive option, it's the surest way to increase horsepower by large amounts. You can purchase a crate engine, which is a completely assembled new engine, or you can opt for short- and long-block engines, which come in various stages of assembly.
