Directions for B&M Ratchet Shifter

B&M ratchet shifters are automatic shifters designed for automotive racing and high performance applications. Automatic shifters improve the driving experience, allowing the driver to shift quickly without losing torque. These shifters utilize a ratcheting mechanism that controls the vehicle's transmission. This mechanism provides the quickest shifting possible for automatic transmissions. Ratchet shifters function normally for daily operation when left unengaged.

  • Apply the brake and lift the shifter handle vertically to shift into the appropriate gear. After choosing the desired gear, engage the transmission by releasing the shifter handle. This will allow standard operation of the ratchet shifter in all gears.

  • Engage the ratcheting shifter by selecting drive. Once in drive, pull the shifter back fully. This will shift into the next lower gear. Continue shifting until you reach the lowest gear. A four-speed transmission will require three shifts to reach first gear.

  • Shift from first gear to second gear by pushing the shifter forward. Repeat this movement to shift from second to third, and from third to drive.

  • Leave the shifter in drive to return to normal operation.
