How to Use Cobb Accessport

Cobb Tuning produces the Accessport tuner that optimizes a car's electronic control unit for performance gains. The Cobb Accessport is suitable for modern high-performance cars made by Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Subaru. The device is handheld and straightforward to navigate through the many features that individually tweak and report engine output. The tuner additionally provides a default setting to undo any custom electronic tuning and reset the ECU back to the car manufacturer's factory settings.

  • Locate the OBD-II port underneath the dashboard on the driver's side of the car. Plug the supplied Accessport cable into the port and into the Accessport handheld device. Follow the onscreen installation instructions using the selector pad on the tuning unit.

  • Select "Base Maps" from the onscreen menu to choose the engine map platform suitable for your vehicle. Choose "Stage 1" to remap performance in an engine without modifications. Select "Stage 1+" for a modified air intake system. Choose "Stage 2" for modifications in the exhaust system. Choose "Stage 2+" for modifications in both the intake and exhaust systems.

  • Select "Change Maps" from the onscreen menu to choose temporary ECU map settings for specific driving conditions. Choose "Fuel Economy" to optimize fuel consumption on a long drive. Choose "Valet" to prevent the engine from over revving if you let someone else drive your car and you are unsure of their driving capabilities.

  • Select "Performance Monitor" from the menu to provide data on the new map modifications. Choose "Dynamometer" to check the horsepower reading of the engine. Choose "0-60" if you want to time your car's speed from standing to 60 mph.

  • Select "ECU Settings" to customize your engine timing, idle level and revs during gear changes. Select "Data Logging" to record information from the ECU to monitor such data as air flow, battery voltage, coolant temperature and the air-to-fuel ratio.

  • Select "Trouble Codes" when you have a warning light on your dashboard. Read the error code that the Cobb Accessport displays, along with the description to help you determine and fix the problem. Reset the error code to clear the code and turn off the warning light to check the efficacy of your repair.
