How to Install a Tow Package on My Jeep

You can order a special tow package for your Jeep so that you can tow heavier items than a tow hook can handle. Items such as trailers require a tow package. If you want to tow heavy loads, you can order a tow package that will come with all the parts you need for installation.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Socket wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Remove the current tow hook if the hook is present. Remove the bolts that hold the tow hook with a wrench or socket wrench, depending on where they are located on the tow hook.

  • According to the Hitch Source instructions, remove the two rearmost M12 fasteners from the Jeep. M12 fasteners are also known as hex bolts and look like such. Remove them with a wrench.

  • Raise up your hitch and install the hardware. The hardware that comes with your tow package should include the hitch as well as the bolts and washers. Loosely screw these into the existing weld nuts on the frame rails. After everything is loosely installed, go back and tighten everything with a torque wrench.
