How to Troubleshoot an Acura RSX Keyless Entry Remote

Manufactured by Honda's Acura division, the Acura RSX is an entry level luxury performance sports vehicle that was produced in the United States from 2002 to 2006. The keyless entry system for the Acura RSX makes locking and unlocking the doors of your vehicle even easier. A keyless entry remote that's on the fritz can be frustrating. Luckily, these troubleshooting tips should have the remote for your Acura RSX working again in just minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Optical-sized flathead screwdriver
  • Replacement battery
  • Cotton swab
  • White vinegar
  • Tissue
  • Acura RSX key
  • Install a new battery in your Acura RSX keyless entry remote. Open the remote by inserting the tip of an optical-sized flathead screwdriver into the seam where the two halves of the remote meet; gently work the screwdriver back and forth until the two halves separate. Take out the old battery and replace it with a new one. Reassemble the keyless entry remote by aligning the two halves and squeezing them between your fingers until you hear them snap together.

  • Check the battery contacts inside the remote for corrosion. Separate the two halves of the keyless entry remote as described in Step 1. Remove the battery and set it aside while you clean the battery contacts. Rub the battery contacts with a cotton swab that has been dipped in white vinegar; use a tissue to wipe away any vinegar residue. Reinsert the battery and reassemble the remote.

  • Program the remote to your Acura RSX. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. Aim the keyless entry remote at the receiver unit located under the audio systems panel; press any button on the remote. Turn the ignition "Off," then "On." Point the remote at the receiver unit and press any button. Cycle the ignition "Off," then "On." Aim the remote at the receiver, press any button and quickly cycle the ignition "Off" and "On" again. Press any button on the remote while pointing it at the receiver. Listen for the power locks to cycle automatically, then press the "Lock" or "Unlock" button on the remote. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
