How to Program a Monte Carlo Remote Control Lock

The Chevy Monte Carlo's remote keyless entry (RKE) system module is inside the factory radio (on most vehicles, it is located under the dash). Programming a new remote for your Monte Carlo is pretty simple, however, due to the location of the RKE module, you won't be able to program a remote if your Monte Carlo has an inoperable or aftermarket radio. You can program up to four remotes for your Monte Carlo, once you enter the programming mode.

  • Turn your key as far as it will go without cranking the engine (this will turn on your indicator lights and your radio). Press the "Pwr" button to turn your radio off.

  • Press and hold the "Disp" button on the radio for about five seconds, until "Settings" displays on the screen. Press "Seek Up" several times, until the radio display shows "Fob Prog."

  • Press the "Next" button. Your radio will display "Begin." Press "Disp" to begin programming the remote. After you press "Disp," the screen will flash. Press and hold "Lock" and "Unlock" for 15 to 20 seconds. When the remote is programmed, you will hear a beep. Release the buttons.

  • Press and hold "Unlock" and "Lock" for 15 to 20 seconds on each remote you want to program. When you are finished, press "Next" until "Exit" displays, then press "Disp" to exit the Programming menu.
