How to Lift a Grand Cherokee

When you do not have the money to hire a professional mechanic, you must attempt to complete simple car repair jobs yourself. The first step to nearly every repair is to lift your vehicle onto jack stands so that the undercarriage is readily accessible. However, large vehicles, such as Jeep Grand Cherokees, can sometimes be intimidating to lift. Also, it may be difficult to know where to place your floor jack and jack stands. But lifting a Jeep Grand Cherokee onto jack stands is really no more difficult than any other vehicle.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Park your Jeep on a flat, level surface. Place the vehicle in park and turn off the engine.

  • Position the floor jack carefully under the center of the front cross beam of your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Crank the jack to lift the front of the Jeep a few inches off of the ground.

  • Slide two of the jack stands under the reinforced support points just behind the front tires. Check to ensure that they are correctly centered.

  • Slowly lower the jack until the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes to rest on the front jack stands. Move the floor jack to the back cross beam of the Jeep, carefully center it, and then crank it until the back of the Jeep is lifted a few inches.

  • Slide the remaining two jack stands under the reinforced support points that are just in front of the rear tires. Again, check to ensure that they are correctly centered.

  • Slowly lower the floor jack until the back of the Jeep comes to rest on the rear jack stands and the Jeep is lifted levelly. You can now work on your Jeep Grand Cherokee as needed.
