How to Disable the Auto-Lock Function on a 2000 Ford Explorer

The 2000 Ford Explorer did not come standard with power door locks; however, most vehicles were equipped with them. Coupled with the power door lock feature is an "auto-lock" feature. This feature automatically locks your Explorer's doors when the vehicle is put in gear. This feature is automatically enabled, however, you can disable it. There are two methods for disabling the auto-lock function; one uses the door keypad, the other uses the ignition.

Using the Door Keypad

  • Remove the key from the ignition and close all of the doors.

  • Enter your five-digit code on the door keypad.

  • Press and hold the "7/8" button; then press and release the "3/4" button.

  • Release the "7/8" button. The horn will sound, indicating the auto-lock function is disabled.

Using the Ignition

  • Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key to "On."

  • Press the "Unlock" button on the door panel three times. Turn the key to the "Off" position.

  • Press the "Unlock" button three times again. Turn the key to the "On" position. Press the "Unlock" button one time.

  • Press the "Lock" button. Turn the key to the "Off" position.
