How to Install a Grill on a Jeep Grand Cherokee

Grills for the Jeep Grand Cherokee are interchangeable depending on the model year of the vehicle. In older models, the grill and fascia are one piece that needs to be removed to install a new grill. With newer models, the grill and fascia are attached separately, making installing a new grill easier. You can install a new grill on your Jeep Grand Cherokee by following instructions for the vehicle's model year.

Things You'll Need

  • 7 mm socket
  • Socket wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers

1999 to 2003 Model Year

  • Determine the type of grill that is on your vehicle. The 1999 to 2003 models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo have a grill that you can remove without removing the fascia.

  • Remove the three bolts that are in the lower area across the front part of the grill using a socket wrench.

  • Open the hood and use the socket wrench to remove the bolts from the top of the grill.

  • Use a screwdriver to pry off the washers on the back of the grill near the top. Pull the grill forward until you can see the washers. The washers are attached to plastic studs that hold the grill to the backing frame.

  • Break off the plastic posts near the bottom of the grill with a pair of pliers and then pull out the grill.

  • Place the new grill into the fascia.

  • Insert the bolts into the front of the grill and tighten them with the socket wrench

  • Insert the bolts into the top of the grill and tighten them with the socket wrench.

2004 Model Year

  • Release the five upper clips that are connected to the headlight mounting module. This will separate the top of the grill from the mounting module.

  • Pull out on the grill and release the four lower clips that are also connected to the headlight mounting module.

  • Place the new grill in the fascia and connect the lower clips to the headlight mounting module.

  • Connect the upper clips by starting in the middle and moving outward.

2005 to 2009 Model Year

  • Use a screwdriver to remove the plastic push pins by gently prying upward. These pins are in two pieces, which requires removing the circular pin top and then the sleeve.

  • Pull the grill forward and then out of the fascia.

  • Place the new grill in the fascia and then connect the push pins. Align the tabs along the bottom before connecting the push pins.
