How to Install an XM Radio in a Pontiac G6

Installing an XM radio in your Pontiac G6 will allow you to take advantage of satellite radio. XM is a company that offers subscribers a premium radio service that uses satellites to transmit adigital signal to an antenna and receiver that is mounted in your G6. These radio stations tend to have fewer commercials than their FM or AM counterparts and you can listen to your favorite radio station on XM almost regardless of where you are in the country (as long as the satellite signal can get to your antenna). Many companies make XM installation kits for your Pontiac, but the installation instructions are basically the same regardless of who makes your installation kit.

Things You'll Need

  • XM installation kit
  • Secure your XM radio receiver to the windshield using the supplied suction cup. Or, secure the receiver to the dash using the supplied double-sided adhesive patch provided in your installation kit. The receiver should not impair your vision of the road.

  • Mount the antenna on the top of your G6. The roof of your Pontiac is made of sheet metal. The bottom of the antenna is magnetic. Touch the bottom of the antenna to the top of your G6 and it will "stick" to the metal like any ordinary magnet. However, the antenna uses a slightly stronger magnet to keep the antenna in place so that even a strong wind won't cause the magnet to fall off.

  • Route the antenna wires into the car. Route the wiring behind the door's rubber trim to prevent the door from pinching the wiring when you close the door.

  • Plug the antenna power connector into the receiver.

  • Plug the power connector from the receiver into the accessory outlet (cigarette lighter) in your G6.

  • Press the "Power" button on your receiver and follow the instructions on the display screen to activate your XM subscription.
