How to Install RSX Seats on an EK Hatch

Unlike the stock seats that come with the Honda EK Hatchback, the RSX seats have a lumbar support. In order to replace the standard seats in the EK Hatch, you must fabricate new parts to bolt the RSX seat in place. The seat fit tighter around the body and grip your body when turning, which the stock seats do not. Performing this replacement will require some mechanical knowledge, as well as minor fabrication skills. Following certain steps will help you install these improved automobile seats.

Things You'll Need

  • Drill press
  • Hand drill
  • Drill bits for steel
  • Jigsaw
  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Hacksaw
  • Wrench set
  • Flat steel (2-feet-by-3-inch-by-3/8-inch)
  • Grinder
  • Bolts
  • Staple gun
  • Box knife
  • Nuts
  • Washers
  • Black spray paint

Front Seats

  • Disconnect the wiring harness running to the stock driver's seat. Unbolt the seat at each corner and pull the driver's seat out. Remove the seat-belt buckle and cut off the tab with a hacksaw. Grind down the tab and smooth the surface. Remove the seat-belt buckle on the RSX seats and bolt the old stock buckles in place.

  • Cut off the right rear bracket on the RSX seats. Cut four 5-inch-long pieces of flat steel to make brackets. Set the RSX seat in place and slide each piece of flat steel under each corner. Mark the bolt holes and remove the flat steel. Pull out the RSX seat. Drill holes in each piece of flat steel. Bend the bracket you will use for the right rear mount and drill a bolting hole.

  • Bolt the fabricated brackets to the RSX seat. Set the new seat in place and bolt the RSX in place. Pull the wires from the seat-belt buckle through the bottom of the seat and reconnect to the wiring harness. Slide the seat forward and back to ensure it works properly.

  • Perform the same steps for the passenger's front seat. Cut off the left-rear bracket and bend a replacement, instead of the right-rear bracket that was fabricated on the driver's seat. Remove the seat-belt buckle and cut off the tab, similar to the driver's side seat. No wiring runs to the passenger's front seat.

Rear Seats

  • Remove the stock back seats. Disconnect the mounting plates on the back rest of the stock seats and set these brackets aside.

  • Bend the back mounting brackets on the bottom seat cushion of the RSX seats. Leave the front mounting bracket on the side of the bottom seats in place. Insert the bottom seat cushion and bolt in place.

  • Remove the seat cushion on both backrests of the back seats. Remove the foam from the cloth or leather material covering. Place the cushion inside the EK Hatch and rest it against the backrest. Mark the length of the cushion and cut it to fit. Replace the cloth or leather material covering, and staple in place.

  • Install the old mounting bracket you took off the stock seats. Bolt the backrests on either side of the rear seats in place. Check the seat to ensure they are working properly.
