How to Install an Autometer Air Fuel Ratio Gauge

An Autometer air fuel ratio gauge is designed for trucks or cars. The gauge monitors your engine's air pressure and fuel pressure. The pressure will fluctuate from lean to rich, as the amount of air the engine is able to take in changes. Installing an Autometer air fuel ratio gauge is not a difficult task; you can complete it yourself with a few tools.

  • Rotary tool
  • Circular electrical connector
  • Pliers
  • Park your car and turn the ignition off. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  • Find an area to mount your Autometer air fuel gauge. Use a rotary tool to make a hole in the dashboard for your Autometer gauge to fit. Cut a hole in the dash that is the same size as your gauge. You will use the supplied mounting brackets or clamps to mount the gauge after you have hooked the wiring up to it.

  • Install the 12-volt power supply from the Autometer gauge to the ignition coil. Connect the power wire to the ignition coil using a circular electrical connector. Thread the gauge power wire into the connector and crimp the wire into the connector. Place the connector around the bolt of the ignition coil, then tighten the bolt over the connector to secure it. Make sure the electrical wiring is touching the ignition coil.

  • Connect the violet oxygen sensor wire from the Autometer gauge to the oxygen sensor wire of your vehicle. Look for the specific location of your vehicle's O2 sensor in your vehicle's manual. Use a wire stripping tool to strip the wiring on the violet wire of the Autometer gauge and the O2 sensor wire of your vehicle. Twist the wires together and use some electrical tape to secure the wiring.

  • Place the mounting bracket onto your gauge and place the bracket inside the hole you made. Tighten the supplied screws through the holes on the bracket, securing it into the dash. Align the dash so it is straight.

  • Connect the negative wire to your car's battery and start your vehicle. Your Autometer air fuel gauge should be lit up and functioning.
