Whether your old driver's seat needs upholstery or you just want to swap it out for a new model, the first thing you have to do is remove the seat assembly itself from the chassis. Fortunately, on most vehicles, taking out the factory seats is a fairly easy task, and can be accomplished by anyone with just a few tools. In this case, the project vehicle is a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.
Lean down on your side and locate the four bolts that hold the seat to the floor. Unbolt the seats using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and place the bolts to the side.
Tilt the back of the seat forward using the back lever on the base of the seat to allow you to remove the seat.
Pick up the seat using the back and the base as a grabbing point, and lift out the seat using your legs and not your back. Place it out of the vehicle and out of your way.
