How to Remove a GMC Truck Center Console Interior

The center console of your truck can be the home for your beverages, registration and any other paperwork you may need. At the same time, it also is in the way if you want to install a big stereo system, or should you need to remove it to clean out the carpet or the interior. In this case, the project vehicle is a 1999 GMC Silverado Crew Cab, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and socket set
  • Sit in the driver's seat and open up the center console. Under the cover there is a black pocket which has all of the contents of the console. Grip this insert by the sides and pull it up vertically to remove it from the console. Place it to the side so that it's out of the way.

  • Locate the four bolts on either end of the console that secure it to the floorboard. Use the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets to unbolt the console, then set the bolts to the side for later use. Because of the location of the bolts, you may have to alternate between the extension and just the socket to gain access.

  • Lift the console out of the vehicle and place it away from the truck. Be careful not to hit the console against anything on the interior to avoid damaging the console or the surrounding interior.
