Car wax helps protect your vehicle's paint, and removes the surface contaminants that leave it looking dull. Place your vehicle in a shaded area, out of the sun.
Fill a bucket with automotive soap and water. Two tablespoons of soap should be used for every gallon of water.
Spray your vehicle with water to remove any loose contaminants and prepare the surface for washing.
Dip a soft sponge into the soap mixture and begin applying it to your vehicle. When washing, it is best to start at the top of the vehicle and work your way down. Make sure you rinse after soaping each section so it doesn't have an opportunity to dry on its surface.
Use a chamois to dry your vehicle after rinsing it thoroughly. A chamois should be dampened and wrung out before using. Continue to wring your chamois out after drying each quadrant of your car. This will help ensure it is drying adequately.
Prepare the automotive polisher by attaching a soft wool pad to its applicator surface. Apply a quarter size amount of polish to the soft wool pad and then begin working it into the surface of your vehicle. Use the same method as washing by starting at the top and working on small sections. Apply more polish to the applicator as needed.
Begin waxing your vehicle by applying a small amount of wax to a dampened sponge. Apply the wax to your vehicle in a small circular motion. Make sure you are working on small sections, and not attempting to wax the entire vehicles surface at one time. After applying the wax allow it to dry to a haze. This generally takes one to two minutes. Using a dry towel, begin buffing the dried wax in small circular motions. Continue repeating this step until the entire vehicle has been properly waxed.
Remove any excess wax that may have ended up on the unpainted surfaces of your vehicle. These include the metal and plastic trim pieces. A window cleaner and dry cloth will remove all reside without damaging the trim pieces.
