How to Remove Highway Paint Splatter Off a Car Safely

Getting highway paint splattered on your car is awful. Not only does it mar the car's paint job, but it's hard to remove without damaging that paint. Fortunately, detailing products on the market can help you remove the paint splatter. Detailing clay comes in a bar and is sold at most auto parts stores. The clay lifts paint in a way that preserves the clear coat and underlying paint.

Things You'll Need

  • Detailing clay
  • Soap and water
  • Sponge
  • Lint-free towel
  • Wash the paint-splattered area thoroughly with soap and water.

  • Dry the paint-splattered area with a dry, lint-free towel.

  • Rub the detailing clay across the splattered paint area as you would rub or scrub a sponge across the body of the vehicle. The only difference in the technique is that you should rub the clay bar in one direction. The bar is quite hard, but you will notice small bits and pieces of the clay coming off the bar as you rub it across the paint. This is normal. The clay should not stick to the surface. Be patient while you are rubbing. The clay may not remove all of the paint right away, depending on how bad the splatter is. This may take you five minutes, an hour, or more. Eventually, the splattered paint should come off the clear coat without damaging your car's paint job.
