How to Get Glue Off a Car

Bumper and car stickers always seem to leave glue on the car or window on which they were placed. Cleaning agents, knives and other products often can't get the glue off. You'll need an alternative strategy to remove the mess.

Things You'll Need

  • Gasoline
  • Old rag, shirt or dish towel
  • Protective eyewear
  • Protective gloves
  • Remove the sticker or source of the glue completely from the vehicle. A razor blade or butter knife can assist in this process.

  • Find an old rag, dish cloth or shirt, anything you won't mind tossing out after using it.

  • Put a gallon of gas into a container.

  • Wear protective equipment on your eyes and hands. Put on a long-sleeved shirt and long pants to protect your skin from any spilled gasoline.

  • Pour some gas on one end of a rag. The dry end will be used later in the process, so leave a dry end.

  • Gently rub the area of the car that contains the glue. You should rub in a circular pattern, much as you would if you were washing your vehicle. If you rub too hard, the first layer of paint may peel off.

  • Use the dry end of the rag to dry the area where the glue was. Once the process is completed, throw the rag away and immediately wash the clothes you were wearing.
