The inside of a car roof is lined with a thin fabric known as a headliner. Over time, the car headliner can start to sag from the center of the fabric, which can ultimately impair the vision of the driver. When this sagging process starts to take place, removing and installing a brand-new replacement headliner is necessary. Installing a new car headliner in a VW Bug can be done with minimal fuss.
Unscrew the large, silver bolts situated in the middle of the VW bug headliner with a wrench. Place these to one side.
Insert your index fingers into the empty bolt holes in the VW Bug headliner and gently pull. This will loosen the VW Bug headliner without ripping it. Feed the removed VW Bug headliner through the back door.
Scrub the old glue off the exposed VW Bug roof with sandpaper.
Apply some spray adhesive glue onto the replacement VW Bug headliner. A thin coat of glue will suffice. Push the VW Bug headliner onto the now-exposed roof of the VW Bug, making sure to push the edges with a lot of force. Sagging tends to happen around the edges of headliners.
Reattach the VW Bug bolts to the center of the new headliner. Trim any overlapping VW Bug headliner material with scissors.
