How to Clean Recaro Seats

Recaro seating is a top choice for those who want custom seats in their sporty vehicle. Some models come in wipeable plastic but others are covered with removable or non-removable Alcantara fabric covers. Cleaning of Recaro custom seating includes stain removal, weekly upkeep and annual washing.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Water
  • Cloth
  • Brush
  • Detergent
  • Washing machine
  • Dust the seating on a daily or weekly basis using a soft cloth or upholstery brush with gentle bristles to avoid bruising the finish. The upholstery brush on a vacuum cleaner is also sufficient for daily cleaning.

  • Complete weekly clean by running a clean damp cloth gently over the seat covers to pick up stray debris and dust. A white cotton cloth is the best choice to avoid staining the seating upholstery with fabric dyes.

  • Remove seat cover, if removable, and wash in a washing machine adhering to any instructions on the cover's tag. Basic instructions include a water temperature of 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit using a mild laundry detergent.

  • Dry the car seat cover by air drying on a flat surface rather than in the dryer. Once dry, the cover should be brushed gently with a soft bristle brush to reinvigorate the fabric fibers and avoid an uneven surface look.

  • Dry clean removable seat covers, if appropriate, adhering to any manufacturing instructions. In most cases, this means instructing the dry cleaners to avoid high heats and steam cleaning methods. The cleaning chemical trichloroethylene should be avoided as it may permanently damage the fabric.

  • Consult the manufacturer's website to purchase specific cleaning products for non-removable covers.

  • Clean non-removable covers by hand by applying a soft damp cloth across the entire surface and pushing down to gently wipe away surface dirt. A clean sponge also works and the action should be repeated until the whole surface has been gently scrubbed. Rinse and wring cloth or sponge frequently to avoid over-wetting the fabric.

  • Allow the fabric of the car seat cover to dry overnight before brushing gently with a soft bristled brush to comb the fabric back into a consistent weave.

  • Treat stains immediately with a damp absorbent cloth making sure not to rub or grind the stain into the upholstery. Avoid stain removing products whenever possible. Be sure to remove any surface debris by hand before working on the underlying stain to prevent smearing.
