How to Change the Cabin Filter on a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe

In 2008, Honda gave the Accord a complete overhaul that included a full exterior redesign, a roomier cabin and two new, more powerful engines. Helping keep the cabin free of pollen and dust was a cabin filter that Honda mounted just behind the glove box. Honda recommends changing this filter when the Maintenance Minder system displays "A 2" or "B 2," or every 15,000 miles if you drive in overly dusty conditions.

Removal

  • Open the glove box and remove the items in it. Squeeze the sides of the glove box inward until the stoppers on each side -- the retainers that keep the glove box from falling downward -- clear the cutout in the dashboard, then pivot the glove box from the dashboard and allow it to hang. Find the rectangle-shaped cover behind the glove box -- this is the front of the cabin air filter tray. Squeeze the tab on each side of the tray to unlock it, and slide the tray and filter out of the housing. Pull the old filter out of the tray, and wipe the tray clean with a damp cloth.

Installation

  • Set the new cabin air filter into the tray with its "Airflow" arrow pointing down. Align the cabin air filter tray with the cutout in the housing, and slide the tray into the housing until the tabs click into place. Lift the glove box upward, then squeeze the sides inward until the stoppers clear the cutout in the dashboard, and guide the glove box back into place. Release the sides of the glove box to lock it in place. Close the door.
