How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a 2002 Escalade

"Change Engine Oil" appears on your Escalade's dash when the Cadillac's computer system determines the vehicle needs an oil change. The system isn't based on mileage intervals; instead, it's based on engine revolutions. You can expect the light to come on somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 miles after your most recent oil change. After you change the Escalade's oil, the "Change Engine Oil" light remains. It's necessary to reset the system to make it go off.

  • Shut off the Escalade's engine. Turn the key to the "Run" position. The electronics should be active, including the odometer.

  • Quickly step on the Escalade's gas pedal three times to reset the change oil message.

  • Turn the key off, and then turn it on and crank the engine. Verify the message is turned off. If it's still on, try the procedure again.
