How to Install an Electric Water Temperature Gauge

There are various gauges on the dashboard of your automobile that measure and display information such as oil pressure and gasoline. One of these is the water temperature gauge which tells you if your car is overheating or not. It's important to have a functional gauge so if your isn't working you can remove and replace it with a new electric water temperature gauge.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Remove the glass or plastic dash cover in your car according to the directions in your particular car's user manual. Once the cover is removed you will have access to the gauges.

  • Locate the water temperature gauge and slide it out of its compartment. It may be necessary to insert the tip of your flathead screwdriver in the seam where the gauge meets the compartment and work your way around the gauge, prying outward as you go.

  • Unplug the wires from their ports on the back of the gauge. These wires connect to the car's battery.

  • Plug the wires into the ports on the back of the new electric water temperature gauge.

  • Fit the gauge in the dash compartment and make sure it is secure in the compartment.
