How to Change the Drive Belt on a Kawasaki 700

A drive belt keeps a vehicle -- whether a motorcycle, ATV, or any other -- moving via power from the motor to the rear wheel. Over time, you will no doubt find that the power of your Kawasaki 700 has dwindled. This is most likely due to the normal wear and tear of the drive belt. You can regain power from your ATV by replacing the belt with a new one at home in your garage or driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • New drive belt
  • Jack or lift
  • Wrench
  • Pliers
  • Apply a jack or lift to your Kawasaki 700 to elevate it. The vehicle requires lifting in order to make it easier to make repairs.

  • Raise the seat of the ATV to get access to the engine area. Lift up and remove the cover that holds the clutch and drive belt. The drive belt is located around the clutch, which is just to the right side of the engine.

  • Use a pair of pliers to remove the clutch from your Kawasaki. Twist the bolt in a counter-clockwise motion to loosen it, and then gently remove the clutch.

  • Pull the drive belt off of the clutch's sprocket. Install your new drive belt by positioning it in the same manner as the old one was in.

  • Reattach the clutch back into the Kawasaki. Make sure it and the drive belt are secure.

  • Run the motor to test out the motion of the clutch and belt to ensure it runs properly. If it seems to be operating correctly, take the ATV for a test drive. Replace the cover over the parts when you're finished.
