How to Remove Door Panels From a 2004 Grand Am

The 2004 Pontiac Grand Am uses plastic grommets to hold the door panel to the door. The door panel can be removed quickly and simply for easy access to the inner workings of the door. The panel will need to be removed to troubleshoot a faulty window motor or even the door locks. Purchase new grommets at the automotive parts store for installing the door panel.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Open the door for access to the door panel. Leaving the door open will provide extra room for removal of the panel.

  • Pry off the panel around the door handle with a flat-head screwdriver. Locate the two screws behind this panel.

  • Remove the two screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Place the two screws in a safe place.

  • Peel the panel off starting at the bottom. Gently pull the panel away from the door. The door panel is held in place by plastic grommets. Work around to the top of the panel until it is freed from the door.

  • Unplug any wiring harnesses attached to the door. The wiring harnesses will have locking tabs that need to be raised to separate the connectors. Twist the courtesy light at the bottom of the door counterclockwise and pull out of the panel if the door panel is equipped with a courtesy light.

  • Place the panel in a dry covered area for safe keeping.
