How to Grease Bearing Buddies

A Bearing Buddy wheel bearing cap provides a constant flow of grease to wheel or hub bearings. The grease inside the Bearing Buddy sits under pressure. The pressurized grease continually feeds the bearing while you operate the vehicle. When the grease inside the Bearing Buddy runs low, the friction builds inside the bearings. Regularly checking and refilling the Bearing Buddy with grease ensures the bearings of your vehicle remain lubricated and friction free.

Things You'll Need

  • Rag
  • Hand grease gun
  • Wipe grease from the grease filler piston located in the center of the Bearing Buddy with a rag. Push the piston side-to-side to check for low grease levels. The Bearing Buddy requires grease if the piston remains stationary when pushed.

  • Push a grease gun hose fitting firmly on the Bearing Buddy grease filler piston. Hold the fitting in place.

  • Pump the handle of the grease gun three to four times. Pull the grease gun fitting from the Bearing Buddy piston.

  • Grab the Bearing Buddy piston with your thumb and index finger. Attempt to move the fitting back and forth. Add additional grease to the Bearing Buddy if the center piston moves from side to side less than 1/8 inch.

  • Wipe excess grease from the center piston when the Bearing Buddy moves from side to side 1/8 inch or more.
