How to Remove Honda Molding

Trim is installed around cars to help keep the elements out and seal the gaps between the windows and doors. Specifically, you'll find trim around the doors and windows and along the windshield of the car. Over time, the molding can get damaged, as the wear and tear can cause it to lose its effectiveness. One way to get the seal back on the car is to replace the molding. The first step in replacing the molding on a Honda or any other type of car is to remove it. This is a job most car owners can easily handle.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Soap
  • Rags
  • Bucket
  • Heat gun
  • Clean the trim and the surrounding area thoroughly with soap and water. Dip a rag in soapy water and scrub the trim clean to remove any gunk and residue. Go around the entire car wherever the trim is located and scrub until all the dirt has been removed.

  • Hold a heat gun close to the molding, being careful not to touch it. Run it over the molding to allow it time to heat up and continue until the molding begins to loosen up from the heat.

  • Pry up the first piece of molding, beginning at one end. Use a putty knife to scrape under the molding, being careful not to scratch the car. Continue until you can pull it off by hand.

  • Heat up the next area with a heat gun and repeat the same process all the way around the car until you have removed all the molding. Scrape off any leftover residue with the putty knife and water, but be careful not to scratch the car.

  • Clean the area where the molding was with a clean rag and dish soap. Scrub thoroughly until you have completely removed all the scum and leftover gunk.
