What Is the Right Size Battery for a Harley?

When you get your first Harley, the last thing you want is to have your "Born to Be Wild" dreams shattered by a dead battery. Because Harley-Davidson makes many different motorcycle models, it's important to find the right size battery for your bike because there is no universal battery size.

Instructions

  • Read your Harley owner's manual and find the battery specifications. The battery will have a code consisting of either numbers or letters, which will lead you to the correct size motorcycle battery. For example, a Harley-Davidson Softail side box battery is a PC545.

    Dig out the owner's manual.

Identification

  • Visit an auto parts store and give the clerk the year and model of your Harley so he can look it up. If you do not have the owner's manual, the clerk may be able to look at the battery currently installed in your Harley .
