How to Reset the Alarm in a 2001 Camry

You can reset the alarm in your 2001 Toyota Camry right from your home. The Camry comes equipped with an anti-theft system that is integrated with the power locking system. The alarm turns on when you lock the doors with a keyless entry remote. When you disable the battery in your Camry or have it replaced, the alarm system will need to be reset. You could always take it to the dealership to have it reset, but it will be cheaper and faster to do it yourself at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Ignition key
  • Keyless entry remote
  • Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position but don't start the engine. Find the valet switch located near the hood release. Turn the switch on and off quickly three times. Wait for the alarm to chirp.

  • Press and hold down the lock and unlock buttons on your keyless entry remote. Release the buttons when you hear a long beep from the alarm system.

  • Turn the valet switch on, then off again quickly. Turn off the vehicle and remove the ignition key. Lock the doors with the remote to see if it works.
