The headlight lens is the clear plastic shield attached to the front of the headlight assembly. The lens allows the light from the headlight bulb inside the assembly to pass through it and onto the road. Because the headlight lens and the headlight assembly are two different objects attached by tabs and retaining clips, a thin, narrow crevice exists between their mating surfaces that can let in water and create moisture buildup. If your headlight lenses are fogging up, water is getting through the crevice. Fixing the problem involves removing the headlight assembly, a procedure that varies according to the make and model of your Ford.
Set your headlight switch to "Off." Turn off your Ford and open the hood.
Disconnect the headlight wiring harness on the rear of the headlight assembly.
Remove any visible bolts from the top of the headlight assembly and pull the headlight assembly off the headlight mounting bracket. Pry the headlight assembly with the screwdriver if it does not come off easily. If it does not budge, remove the grille and look for any additional securing bolts.
Release the retaining clips that hold the headlight lens to the assembly. Slide the lens out of its mounting grooves.
Clean the headlight lens with soap and water and dry with the towel.
Slide the lens back in the mounting grooves on the headlight assembly. Pour a solid bead of silicon sealant over the crevice between the headlight assembly and the lens. This will seal the crevice and prevent moisture buildup.
Replace the retaining clips to tighten the lens to the assembly. To remount the headlight assembly follow above steps in reverse.
