How to Replace Mercedes Benz Windshield Wipers

Windshield wipers allow drivers to maintain visibility while operating a vehicle. According to AutohauzAZ, "90 percent of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road." Wiper blades that are worn, cracked or otherwise damaged, pose a driving hazard. Without adequate visibility, a driver risks injury to himself and others on the road. Replacing the windshield wiper blades on your Mercedes Benz reduces such risk. Wiper blades can be replaced with refills or the whole blade assembly can be changed.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Needle-nose pliers

Blade Refills

  • Measure the length of your current Mercedes wiper blades or squeegees. The squeegees are the rubber part of the wiper blades. Use a tape measure for determining wiper-blade length.

  • Purchase wiper refills that are the same size.

  • Squeeze the hook-shaped clips near the end of the Mercedes blades. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers or a screwdriver to slide the wiper blades outward.

  • Remove the old wiper blades.

  • Feed the new blades' groove into the wiper arm. Squeeze the clips as you slide them through. Make sure the clips click and the blades are locked in position.

Whole Blade Assembly

  • Measure the old Mercedes wiper blades with the tape measure. Purchase new blade assemblies. A wiper-blade assembly consists of the metal frame and the blade refill.

  • Inspect the old wiper assemblies for one or two tabs holding the wiper arms in place.

  • Release the tabs by pressing them inward or lifting them up.

  • Slide the assemblies off the Mercedes wiper arms.

  • Feed the new wiper assemblies onto the wiper arms at an angle or sideways.

  • Lock the wiper assemblies onto the wiper arms. They should snap or click into position. Gently pull on the assembly to make sure it will not dislodge from the wiper arm.
