How Do I Replace the Front Headlight on a Tundra?

The Toyota Tundra is a fun and utilitarian ride. Known as much for its handling as its reliability, this SUV has become a popular choice for many car buyers. However, like all automobiles, some regular maintenance will need to be performed to keep it in shape and safe to drive. One often overlooked check is the headlights. Twice every year, you should check to be sure they are working properly. If you find one is burned-out, the fix is a quick one.

Things You'll Need

  • New bulb
  • Open the hood and locate the back of the headlight assembly. A cord connects the light assembly to the Tundra's electrical system. Unplug this connector, then peel off the rubber cover exposing the light bulb.

  • Locate the retaining spring directly over the bulb. Slide out the spring and then pull the bulb straight out. Bring the bulb to a Toyota dealer or the local auto-parts store and purchase a replacement.

  • Reassemble the light. First, push in the new bulb, then slide the spring back into place. Close the rubber cover and reconnect the electrical cord.

  • Close the hood and turn on the engine to test the new bulb.
