How to Protect a Car Carpet

A car's carpeting takes a lot of abuse from the second the car is first driven off the lot. Anything a driver steps in outside gets tracked inside of the car. Even pristine vehicles frequently have dirty and damaged carpeting. Protecting a car's carpet is not difficult, but it does require effort and regular maintenance.

Things You'll Need

  • Car mat
  • Carpet cleaner
  • Brush
  • Knock the heels of your shoes together before sliding your legs into the vehicle. This will knock any loose debris or water off your shoes before it can contaminate the inside of your car.

  • Insert floor mats where each passenger sits. Matching carpeted floor mats are attractive, but may require frequent cleaning or replacement. Plastic mats are easily wiped down and cleaned, but are not as inconspicuous.

  • Clean the car's carpets occasionally using a carpet cleaner and a brush. The brush will help break up any difficult stains or debris stuck in the carpet fiber. Follow the instructions on the carpet cleaner for best results.
