Chevrolet Venture Oil Pan Removal

A Chevy Venture is a full-size minivan with a standard Chevy V6 engine. The oil pan is in the center of the bottom of the engine. The exhaust pipes divert around the oil pan so they won't need to be removed, making this process much more simple. Removing the oil pan will allow you to see all the way into the engine from the bottom, making engine repair on the top inside of the engine much simpler.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Drain pan
  • Ratchet
  • 5/16-inch socket
  • Open the hood of the Venture and remove the oil cap from the top of the engine. Raise the front end of the Venture using the car jack and rest the front end on the two jack stands.

  • Place the drain pan under the oil pan and remove the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan using the ratchet and socket. Drain the oil from the pan for five minutes and then replace the plug in the bottom of the oil pan.

  • Place the oil drain pan under the oil filter, on the left side of the oil pan, and remove the oil filter by twisting it off the engine. Drain the oil from the oil pump into the drain pan for five minutes.

  • Remove the bolts around the edge of the oil pan using the ratchet and socket. Once all of the bolts are removed, tap the side of the oil pan with the rubber mallet until the oil pan comes off the bottom of the engine.
