How to Change the Front Rotor on a Sienna

A Toyota Sienna is full-size mini van with a V6 engine. Each model has up to four rotors behind each wheel, though some older models have drum brakes on the rear wheels and drum brakes don't have rotors. Removing the rotors will be the same process for each model, but the torque specifications will be different for every model. The rotors will be secured to the frame by four or five metal nuts, depending on the model.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire iron
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • New rotors
  • Torque wrench
  • Loosen the left front wheel nut on the tire using a tire iron. Raise the front left side of the Sienna using the jack and lower the van onto a jack stand. Pull the front left wheel off the axle.

  • Loosen the nuts on the rear side of the brake caliper using the ratchet and socket set. Remove the brake caliper from the top of the brake rotor.

  • Remove the securing nuts from the center of the brake rotor using the ratchet and socket set. Pull the old rotor off the Sienna's front left axle.

  • Slide the new brake rotor onto the axle and replace the securing nuts to the center of the new rotor. Connect the correct size socket to the torque wrench and tighten the nuts to over 80 ft/lb. You will need the correct torque specifications for that specific model to do this correctly.

  • Replace the brake caliper to the top of the front left rotor and tighten the retaining nuts to the torque specifications, using the torque wrench. Replace the front left wheel to the axle and replace the wheel nuts. Raise the Sienna using the jack and remove the jack stand. Lower the Sienna to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts. Repeat these steps for every other brake rotor.
