How to Find a Satellite ID Number in a Car Radio

Satellite radio, which is installed in many newer cars and can be easily integrated into older cars, allows you to get crystal-clear radio reception and offers a wide range of programs for a monthly fee. Each radio comes with a unique ID number. You'll need this number to address any problems with customer service or to update your service. If you didn't write down the number when you first installed your radio, there are several simple ways to find it.

  • Turn on your satellite radio and change the channel to 0. This channel will display your eight-digit radio ID number. Write it down so that you have it when contacting customer service.

  • Check the box your radio came in (if it wasn't pre-installed). You'll find your unique ID number on the bottom of the box.

  • Check on the back of the radio if it hasn't been installed yet. There will be a label that will have your ID Number on it. Write it down before you install the satellite radio into your car.

  • Contact your car vendor if the radio was pre-installed. The dealership will have a record of the number.
