The Honda Accord is known for its reliability and efficiency. To ensure the car stays efficient and runs for many miles, you will need to change the oil every 3,000 miles or three months to ensure the engine is properly lubricated. You run the risk of the oil losing its viscosity and breaking down, which can cause serious problems for your engine.
Ensure the car is parked on a flat, level surface. Chock the back wheel to prevent the car from moving.
Raise the car from the front with a jack. Ensure you raise it high enough to slide jack stands under both axles. Place the jack stands underneath both axles and lower the car onto the jack stands.
Locate the oil pan. The oil pan is located directly underneath the engine.
Place a drain pan under the oil pan. Unscrew the drain plug with a socket wrench. Allow the oil to drain completely out. Screw the drain plug back to the oil pan.
Unscrew the oil filter, located to the side of the motor, with an oil-filter wrench. Place the oil filter with the waste oil.
Fill the new oil filter with motor oil. Dab your finger in the oil and rub it around the black gasket on the filter. This will lubricate the gasket and make removal easier at the next oil change. This will also help to ensure the filter has a proper seal.
Raise the car to remove the jack stands. Pull the jack stands out from under the axles. Lower the car to the ground.
Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Unscrew the oil cap located on the valve cover. Add five quarts of oil and replace the cap.
Start the car and allow it to run for five minutes. Turn the car off and let it sit for three minutes. Check the engine oil level to ensure it is full. Add oil at half-quart increments and check the oil until the level is full.
