How to Replace the Wiper Blades on a 2006 Jetta

The wiper blades on a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta require a different replacement procedure than some vehicles. The blades reside below the hood when they are in a resting position, so they cannot be accessed by simply moving them off the windshield. Replace windshield wiper blades when there are any visible tears on the blades, or if their windshield cleaning performance has diminished.

  • Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position, but do not start the engine.

  • Turn the ignition off while pressing down the windshield-wiper lever. The wiper blade should stop moving while it's still on the windshield. If not, repeat those steps.

  • Lift the wiper away from the windshield.

  • Press the square shaped, blade-release lever that is located on the tip of the wiper arm.

  • Pull the wiper blade down to slide it out of the wiper arm.

  • Insert the new wiper blade into the arm in the reverse direction you used to remove the old blade. Slide the wiper blade into the arm until it locks into place with a click.
